Getting started
Follow these steps in order. When you finish, LocoLarp can send a test location to other apps on the same Android phone.
1. Check the phone
- The phone must run Android 8.0 (API 26) or newer.
- You must be able to open Settings and install an app.
- If this is a work phone, a company policy may block mock locations. See troubleshooting.
2. Install LocoLarp
- Open the download page and save locolarp-1.1.4.apk on the phone. No key is required to download. Buy a key with a card on Stripe (week and month auto-renew), then paste it in the app under Settings → License. Without a key, Start stays locked.
- On the phone, open the APK file and tap Install.
- If Android asks you to allow installs from this source, allow it only for the app you used to open the file (for example Files).
3. Turn on mock location
Android will not accept a simulated location until you pick LocoLarp as the mock location app. That lives in Developer Options.
- Open Settings → About phone.
- Tap Build number seven times until you see a message that you are a developer.
- Go back, open Developer options, find Select mock location app, and choose LocoLarp.
Samsung, Xiaomi, and other brands hide these menus in slightly different places. Use the Android setup guide for those.
4. Choose a location and start
App UIStart Simulation
New York, NY
40.7128, −74.0060
Simulation Off
Start Simulation
- Open LocoLarp and paste your key in Settings → License.
- Search, tap the map, draw a path, or load a saved preset.
- Tap Start Simulation. The status should change from Simulation Off to Simulation On.
- Open the app you want to test. If it uses Android location APIs, it should see the test coordinate.
5. Stop when you are done
- In LocoLarp, tap Stop Simulation.
- Optionally deselect LocoLarp in Select mock location app so nothing else can mock.
